It’s been said that this will be the summer of rooftop bars.

And that’s fine when you want a little outdoors.

But sometimes you want big waves with your big sky. Fortunately for you, the nightlife gods behind Cain and GoldBar are also feeling the great outdoors… welcome to The Surf Lodge in Montauk. Located on beautiful Fort Pond, just a half-mile from the beach, The Surf Lodge is a modern, 30-room destination with impeccable style and captivating lake views.

The boutique experience begins the moment you enter The Lobby Lounge (perfect for an ice cold beer after surfing) and continues to The Bar at Surf Lodge (perfect for a Long Island Iced Tea). The Restaurant at The Surf Lodge will be cheffed by none other than Sam Talbot (former Top Chef contestant), which means you can count on excellent, seasonally-driven fare and lots of fresh seafood (it is Montauk after all).

You can also unwind at The Spa, watch an outdoor movie after sunset (just like summer camp!), and even catch a live performance by a local group.

Or you can do nothing at all.

At The Surf Lodge, you’re on vacation.

The Surf Lodge Montauk opens to the public Memorial Day weekend.

But, getting to the departures gate has never been fun… until now.

Enter Vino Volo, a new, high-end wine bar located in JFK International Airport. The clever name, Italian for “wine flight”, serves great wines by the glass (from $7 to $44). Wine flights are also available and reasonably priced, arriving with a coaster detailing the wines served (perfect for oenophiles).

There are also excellent small plates to complement your selection. Think mac & cheese with truffle oil, salmon rolls, artisanal cheeses, and cured meats.

And, if you’re new to wines, Vino Volo uses a simple matrix (Bright, Rich, Light, and Brooding) to help you decide.

Drink enough glasses and you might be the newest member of the Mile High Club.

1. Best Private Golf and Sporting Retreat
The Abaco Club, Bahamas
Say you’ve done well this year … really well. Now, say it’s time to splurge on you and only the best will do. You want golf, you want deep sea fishing, and you want a private customs area to access 520 idyllic acres. What you want is the Abaco Club on Winding Bay in Abaco Bay, Bahamas. Limited to a select few by membership and a $1.5 million price tag, this exclusive retreat is this month’s ultimate Holiday destination.

2. Best Cuban Cigar
Cohiba Espléndido
So you didn’t do that well. But, you did buy lots of Google at $95. And since you’ve more than tripled your money, it’s time to celebrate with an Espléndido. Rolled perfectly and filled with fermented tobacco, these Cohibas make the best gifts … for yourself. $650 gets you a box from Habana.

3. Best Steak Delivered
Peter Luger’s Porterhouse Steaks
A perfect smoke deserves a perfect steak and no one does it better than Peter Luger’s. You could wait six weeks for a 7:45 p.m. table or you could have it delivered to the doorman within 48 hours. Milk chocolate coins and two porterhouse cuts go for $157 plus shipping. Instant gratification never tasted so good.

4. Best Cognac
Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Cognac
Celebrated by the worlds of fashion and politics, this prized cognac blends eaux de vies from 40 to 100 years old meaning it’s incomprehensibly smooth and rich. Not unlike you. A mere $1,300 brings it home from zachys.com.

What better way to end this pseudo work week than to bring you some freshly squeezed pictures from Spain?

Every year since 1944, the tiny town of Buñol kicks off a week of revelry with a bang. The tradition goes that on the last Wednesday of August, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the entire town of 8,000 residents gathers to throw tomatoes at each other. The rules of the game are tomatoes only, and squish before throwing. The dress code is beach wear and the party is smashing.

The tomato battles are appetizers to an upcoming entrée of festivities featuring musical bands, food, and fireworks.

Buñol is located 30 miles west of Valencia and tourist friendly.

See you there, next year!
