It’s been said that this will be the summer of rooftop bars.

And that’s fine when you want a little outdoors.

But sometimes you want big waves with your big sky. Fortunately for you, the nightlife gods behind Cain and GoldBar are also feeling the great outdoors… welcome to The Surf Lodge in Montauk. Located on beautiful Fort Pond, just a half-mile from the beach, The Surf Lodge is a modern, 30-room destination with impeccable style and captivating lake views.

The boutique experience begins the moment you enter The Lobby Lounge (perfect for an ice cold beer after surfing) and continues to The Bar at Surf Lodge (perfect for a Long Island Iced Tea). The Restaurant at The Surf Lodge will be cheffed by none other than Sam Talbot (former Top Chef contestant), which means you can count on excellent, seasonally-driven fare and lots of fresh seafood (it is Montauk after all).

You can also unwind at The Spa, watch an outdoor movie after sunset (just like summer camp!), and even catch a live performance by a local group.

Or you can do nothing at all.

At The Surf Lodge, you’re on vacation.

The Surf Lodge Montauk opens to the public Memorial Day weekend.

The parties. The after parties. The after after parties.

Your love affair with Summer 07 has been good.

No, it’s been great.

But, as Labor Day looms large on the horizon, it’s time to consider a little off-shore R&R. For beach bums who prefer the sounds of salsa, consider ME by Meliá Hotels, a new chainlet of boutique hotels in sunny Mexico and gorgeous Spain.

Located in prime areas of each locale (Cabo, Cancún, Madrid), ME by Meliá Hotels are designed to fuse innovative style with local flavor. Each resort is tricked-out with cutting-edge art, international cuisine, and world music. Rooms arrive will all the amenities you’ve come to expect: plasmas, DVD home theater systems, Wi-Fi, 300-thread count linens, and Aveda products.

And since fine vacations require fine dining and nightlife, each hotel has a collaboration with an excellent chef (Chef Richard Sandoval of Maya, NYC in Cabo, Chef Matias Martinez in Cancún, and Chef Jaime Renedo in Madrid) and its very own Rande Gerber hotel bar. Add spa services to the experience and your next holiday is looking sharp.

Besides, you can’t rollover all those vacation days.
Visit mebymelia.com to discover more about ME by Meliá Hotels.

If you’re like us - Type A, overworked, with weeks of vacation days - you’re just about ready to plan your next Holiday.

Since it’s March and Winter hasn’t left New York, maybe you should.

Escape to The Cove Atlantis, a 600-suite addition to the famed Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Part of a recent billion dollar expansion including a 30,000 square foot Mandara Spa, a dolphin habitat, and a 63 acre waterpark (adding to the pre-existing one), the Cove exudes exclusivity and unabashed luxury.

Jeffrey Beers designed the contemporary suites, which start at 650 square feet and boast terraces with panoramic views of the turquoise beaches, two plasma TVs, BOSE entertainment systems, deep soaking tubs, and rainshowers.

Go all out with the two-story, 4,070 square foot Penthouse Suite ($15,000 nightly). The resort’s crown jewel features Murano glass chandeliers, a butler’s office, a chef’s kitchen, an infinity bathtub, and floor-to-ceiling windows with 360-degree views of the ocean and harbor.

While you might be far from home, your sense of leisure won’t be: outposts of Mesa Grill, Nobu, Cain, and a Jean-Georges restaurant are all on deck.

Things to go on your “Never Saw it Coming” list: a $55 mac ‘n cheese, K-Fed outshining Britney, and a cool hotel opening on the Bowery.

Only a few floors have opened but The Bowery Hotel is up and running. Eric Goode and Sean MacPherson, the geniuses behind The Park and The Maritime Hotel, have outfitted Manhattan’s former Skid Row with the tallest building in the vicinity.

Rather than furnish the hotel with the traditional minimalist look gracing most boutique hotels, a refreshing haute Bohemian ambiance resides not unlike the spirit of the Gramercy Park Hotel: think crisp white linens with red embroidery (including the hotel’s name stitched in the pillows), exposed white brick walls and dark wood accoutrements for a comfortable, almost un-urban aesthetic.

Best of all, the $245 introductory rate is easy on your wallet. And, you get bragging rights that you were tough enough to spend the night on the Bowery.

Staying in the city for the holidays originally seemed like a good idea, but since it’s basically been Christmas since the day after Halloween, you’re in need of change of scenery like Lindsay Lohan needs another AA meeting.

With the recently completed overhaul of the former Righa Royal Hotel, the regal, cosmopolitan ambiance of London has never been closer. Spend the holidays at the Righa’s chic reincarnation, The London NYC, where noted designer David Collins (of Nobu’s new Berkeley Street outpost and Claridge’s Hotel, both in London) has reworked the entire existing space to marry the best attributes of a New York hotel with the sophisticated charm of London. Step off the “lift” and feel the suede-textured walls as you find your way to one of the hotel’s 562 oversize suite guestrooms.

Oak parquet floors, a fashionable Victorian style couch, and leather workspaces of the living room invoke the feel of a classically elegant Knightsbridge flat, but the breathtaking views of Central Park will remind you that you actually crossed the pond. Contemporary bedrooms are enhanced by changing lighting schemes and stylish Waterworks designed glass tile bathrooms. If you’re sharing with someone special, be sure to ask for a room with an extra spacious, dual rain showerhead bathing space. And, if it weren’t for two Gordon Ramsay restaurants downstairs, you might never leave your suite.

Holiday rates start at $399.
